Joe Giarrusso has proven that New Orleans can have public servants who are truly serving the public.

Born in New Orleans, Joe is married to Cassie Giarrusso and the father of two daughters. Joe has proven himself as a responsive and tireless advocate for District A, and now he’s asking to continue delivering results as your councilmember.

Joe has been an independent-minded change agent on our City Council whose focus is on what he hears at all neighborhood meetings: safe neighborhoods, better streets, and a stronger local economy. He’s known for brining people together and finding common ground to resolve issues and move our city forward.

During his first term on the City Council, Joe has brought a new level of accountability to the Sewerage and Water Board, helped us secure a new S&WB power source, finally lowered our property taxes, worked on public safety, vastly increased neighborhood participation in city decision-making, and fought for a better economy and more affordable housing for our communities.

Both as a lawyer and Councilmember, Joe Giarrusso has been recognized as one of New Orleans’ rising leaders. He’s led the Public Works Committee and been a champion for smart spending on the Budget Committee. In the past he stepped up to serve our community in a number of important positions: as an Executive Committee and Board Member of the Bureau of Governmental Research; as a past Chair of the Young Leadership Council; as President of KIPP New Orleans Schools board; and as immediate past President of his neighborhood association, the Lakeview Civic Improvement Association.

Joe grew up and went to high school in District A. He was an honors graduate from Jesuit High School and later graduated in three and a half years from the University of Texas with high honors. Joe went on to earn an LSU law degree in 2001 where he was a member of the Louisiana Law Review and finished in the top five percent of his class.

Joe’s built a strong reputation in our city through his dedication to and compassion for his community. Now he wants to continue to offer his energy and passion to make our lives better, to empower and engage his neighbors, and to truly serve the public as your Councilmember for District A.
